Aim & Activities

 

MPLA's activities are in consonance with the objects proclaimed in its "Memorandum of Association".

Devoting attention to various problems of printing industry:
The need for organizing the printing industry, called for solutions to the problems faced by it in common areas, to mention some
1. Pollution control.
2. Technical Training and Education.
3. Skill-Cum-Technology Up gradation.

Pollution control has been MPLA's top most priority. The olden technology which used molten metal of lead, tin and antimony was a cause for air pollution or has been substituted with modern digital technology and offset machines by creating a pollution free atmosphere.

Organizing Exhibition & Conferences:
The first international exhibition of printing machine manufacturers ever to be held in India, was organized by MPLA in 1955 at Madras. The printing and allied industries machinery exhibition (PAMEX) was yet another exhibition followed by PAMEX 97 held at Bangalore. A Seminar on “Graphic Communications beyond 2000" was conducted by the MPLA & MADITSSIA in Madurai in November 1998. The National Awards for Excellence in Printing 2002 was hosted by  MPLA.  MPLA conducted e Age Print 2002 at Chennai Trade Centre and  celebrated its golden Jubilee in the same year,e Age Print 2006 was conducted from February 10-14 in 2006 at Chennai Trade Centre. 

The 5-day exhibition had participants from all over India as well as delegations and exhibitors from Germany and USA. 

The Cinference Print eD 06 organised at the Venue between February 11 and 13 seminars were conduct on various topics both subject related and management oriented. An interesting feature is the Art of Living programme, which is to provide the much-needed balance in the hectic lives of the delegates from the printing fraternity.

"At this conference, there are two distinct aspects At one end of the spectrum we have the exhibitors with their products on display. we also have speakers from these companies talking on the advantages their products bring to the industry. this in breif is "WHAT YOU HEAR IS WHAT YOU SEE".   

Coramandal Printer:
Coramandal printer the official journal of MPLA happens to be one among the leading technical journals in India published since last three decades the last 34 years. It has found international recognition and has readership in countries like America, Far East, Europe and Australia. It carries information on digital technology, pollution free technology, recycling paper and economical usage of materials. Coramandal printer is distributed free to all the libraries and printing institutions in India.

Technical Training and Education:
Chennai has proved to be unique in technical education of printing technology. MPLA has been working in close liaison with Central Polytechnic Chennai, which was the only institution in India imparting technical education in printing technology. Leading Newspapers, printing establishments, Govt. press (central or state) drew its technical personnel from the institute in Chennai. MPLA started the first ever degree course in Printing technology at Anna University. Its continuing education programme still has the practice of giving scholarships to aspiring students.

Technology Up gradation Programme:
MPLA started its first technology up gradation programme in 1978 as a part of its continuing education programme. MPLA also formulates plans with SIDBI and work on their guidelines for Technology up-gradation programmes, modernization, loan sanction, etc. A fund donated by the industry and public to MPLA is utilized for modernization, and up gradation of faculty at the ANNA UNIVERSITY. Scholarship endowment fund from MPLA is utilized to give away scholarship prizes to top-ranking students from the Institute of Printing Technology, Chennai
