Twenty-eight of July 1952 is a significant date in the history of the printers of Madras City as well as of South India. It was on that date the first Association of printers in South India- The Madras Printers' & Lithographers' Association was born. On that memorable day a group of visionaries conceived and embarked on the formation of an Association for the benefit of the printing community of this great city.
In the course of quarter century, the Association has stood the test of time and successfully overcome the pangs of growth. In an era where technology is changing at a bewildering pace, the Association is poised to meet the challenges of the time. It has a band of dedicated men who guided its destinies with maturity and confidence. This healthy growth of Association and its present strength is a great testimony to the sincerity of the founders and the devotion with which they and their successors have built it up over the years.
To go back to the beginning in 1952- it was a Monday, and in the month of July end, it must have been still hot summer evening at 6'o clock. The venue was Woodlands Hotel, Edward Elliot's Road, Madras-4, where fifteen far sighted printers of Madras City assembled, with one strong motive- to start an Association of Printers in the city of Madras. Mr.V.M.Phillip of Diocesan Press, was the Chairman of the meeting.
